Agra GRP and RPF Team Carry Out Major Operation Against Illegal Drugs
Cricket bats and sports shoes were used to smuggle cannabis. 1 kilogram 730 grams of cannabis was recovered from the possession of the accused.
In line with the Uttar Pradesh government's intention to ensure the safety of railway passengers, and under the directives of the Additional Director General of Police, Railways, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Railways, Prayagraj, and the Superintendent of Police, Railways, Agra, an ongoing campaign has been launched to prevent the smuggling, sale, and transportation of illegal drugs, arrest offenders, and recover contraband. Following these directives, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Railways, Agra, and Etawah issued necessary instructions to their subordinates.
On August 23, 2024, under the competent leadership of the Station House Officer, GRP Agra Cantt, a team from the GRP conducted patrols and checks at Agra Cantt Railway Station. Based on the received information, a notorious drug smuggler was arrested. 1 kilogram 730 grams of illegal cannabis was recovered from the accused. A case was registered at Agra Cantt Police Station under FIR No. 207/2024, Section 8/20 NDPS Act.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he initially played cricket but later started smuggling cannabis. He concealed the cannabis in hollowed-out cricket bats and sports shoes for smuggling purposes. He also disclosed that he had previously served 7-8 years in prison for drug trafficking and continued the illegal activity under the guise of cricket.
