In a recent incident, Wildlife SOS successfully rescued a male jungle cat trapped in a 20-foot deep borewell in the agricultural fields of AbhuaPura village near Kirawali in Agra. This marked the second rescue call for the NGO regarding a jungle cat. With prompt response from Wildlife SOS's Rapid Response Unit and the caller's vigilance, the rescue mission proved challenging but ultimately successful.

Upon witnessing the animal in distress, the field owner contacted Wildlife SOS helpline at (+91-9917109666) for assistance. The rescue operation posed various challenges, especially in transporting the necessary equipment for the rescue campaign, but the team persevered in their efforts to extricate the distressed animal from the well.

The team cautiously lowered a crate into the borewell and the frightened jungle cat was carefully lifted out. Despite the prolonged rescue operation lasting about 2.5 hours, the male jungle cat was rescued unharmed. After an immediate on-site medical examination, the cat, fortunately not injured, was kept under observation for 24 hours as a precaution. The following day, it was released back into its suitable natural habitat.

Wildlife SOS Co-founder and CEO, Kartick Satyanarayan, expressed satisfaction, stating, "We are pleased to see an increasing awareness and efforts from people trapped in wildlife to help animals in distress. Calls to our helpline contribute to coexistence with wildlife, and awareness about their presence is growing."

Director of Conservation Projects at Wildlife SOS, Baiju Raj M.V., highlighted, "Jungle cats typically inhabit marshy areas, swamps, agricultural fields, and dense vegetation. This species primarily preys on rodents, small snakes, insects, birds, and occasionally small mammals. They are protected under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972."
